To find medical imaging services in your area you can look on the Internet or in a local phone book for private clinics and hospitals. Call in advance and see if they offer MRI, CT, or PET scans. If not, they may be able to redirect you to somewhere that does. Doctors that specialize in mammography, microscopy, cancer, anatomy, physiology, endoscopy, and thermography are more likely to have the scanners located on site than others that are just a general practice. You can look for departments of radiology and see if they have the x-ray, ultrasound, or MRI scanner available to the public. You might also consider calling your doctor's office and see if somebody there can help you find a location nearby that has the tools needed to conduct an MRI, 4-D ultrasound, CT, or PET scan. Hospitals with outpatient departments will often have medical imaging services available. Most will not need an appointment to see you but it's safe to call ahead and make sure before taking the time to drive to their location. Diagnostic imaging services can be accepted by your health insurance policy to keep you from having to pay expensive fees. However, it's better to call your health insurance's customer service department so they can look over your policy and see if diagnostic imaging services are included and how much you're expected to contribute. If you have to pay for this service you can call several clinics and compare prices to see where the cheapest option is. Always have the results sent to your doctor so they can look it over and call you with the results.
