Humane societies are organizations that work to find homes for unwanted pets. All too often people will own animals that give birth to litters that cannot be taken car of by the owner. In such instances people often give their unwanted pets to humane societies. Most humane societies will take in dogs and cats and some will take in other pets and animals as well. When people want a new cat, a new dog or a new pet, a humane society is often the best place to get one. People often go to humane societies to adopt a new pet. Humane societies do not put animals down but instead keep them alive until homes are found for them. Most humane societies also offer discounted spaying and neutering services for pets.

Humane societies offer a variety of services for strays and pets that you might want to take advantage of. Not all of these organizations offer the same animal services, though, so you should always contact them to make sure that they have consultants and associates that can help you or an animal in need. Some of the services that these organizations commonly offer include animal rescue, protection, shelter, and spay/neuter. If you believe that there are animals in your area that are having their rights as described by the law or local regulations broken, then you might contact one of these organizations for help protecting them from dangerous home situations. Most humane societies are non profit organizations, but you still might have to pay for some animal services. Ask the association if they charge for rescue, donation, medical, or adoption services. Some foundations have programs that allow you to receive assistance vouchers that will reduce the money you spend on medical services for your pets, so ask the consultants if you are able to receive these. Some people are also concerned about whether these rescue foundations euthanize pets. While one company might euthanize an animal to make room for others strays and pets, other groups have a no kill policy. The associations that you choose might depend on how comfortable you are with these policies. When you find rescue associations that suit your needs, be sure to write down their contact info so that you can contact them easily in the future.
