Halls and auditoriums are made to hold large amounts of people so you don't have to fit everyone in a single house. Wedding receptions, bar mitzvahs, and bat mitzvahs may have a lot of people attending. An assembly room can easily hold different amounts of people while having sections for a dance floor or banquet. Charity fundraisers, galas, seminars, and business meetings will need proper planning so on the day of the event you don't find that you haven't got the space needed for everyone who is attending.
