Working in an animal shelter, city pound or with a pet foundation can be a very rewarding experience for both women and men. Since the humane society has grow significantly over the years, there are many professionals thriving in this field. They commonly work with cat and dog breeds, pet adoption, wild animal rescue, and foster care for homeless animals. Depending on the size of the county or city you live in, there may be a number of shelter and center facility locations to work with.

There is a certain level of expertise that goes along with working in a shelter or animal adoption facility. You generally have to have more than a love for cute kitten breeds and small puppies. Depending on whether you choose to be a dog catcher, animal doctor or simply care for the pets in a center, there is training involved. While a dog catcher or individual working in a pound or shelter facility does not require a specific degree, there is on-site training required. As for a veterinarian, this is a specialty field in the medical department, which means a four-year degree and vet schooling. This all can take up to eight years.

Animal shelter and control facilities that care for puppy and cat breeds, as well as hurt wild animals commonly work with the humane society, vet hospitals and city pound locations. These rescue centers and animal care facilities tend to go hand in hand, which means the professionals from each may work together on some occasions.

When you contact the animal shelters, ask them where they are located. You might find that some of them are national companies while others are statewide or local. You might also find that some of the national companies have locations in your area. If you find the company on the Internet, adopt, dog rescue, homeless, humane, adopt a dog, adopting, adoption, control, humane society, kitten, puppies, puppy, rescue fund, SPCA, wild rescue, then you should ask them if they are strictly an online entity or if they have a physical location as well. There are rescue center several questions that you might need to ask in order to determine which company can give you the services that you need. Ask them if they provide quotes for their services so that you can compare the costs of using different companies. Many animal shelters and humane societies provide a variety of services to people and pets. May have dog rescue programs and keep homeless dogs and cats that people can adopt as pets. Some also work with rescue foundations to provide animals with a second chance. When the companies' reps are answering your questions, pay attention to the level of courtesy that they use. This can often indicate how you will be treated in the future. By knowing what questions to ask, you should be able to find the animal shelter that is best for you.
